What Are Dental Bridges?

When one or many of your teeth are missing, it is more than just a problem with appearance as having gaps can cause your remaining teeth to shift. This can result in unnecessary tension in your bite, pain when you chew, or a speech impairment. A dental bridge improves the health and appearance of your mouth by covering spaces with a false tooth that is supported by either crowns, dental implants, or a combination of both. At Washington Elite Dentistry, our team offers dental bridges with top-quality materials to help restore your beautiful smile. If you have gaps in your smile, please schedule an appointment at our Washington, D.C. office to learn about your treatment options with dental bridges.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges supply multiple benefits for those looking to replace lost teeth and restore their appearance and oral health. The team at Washington Elite Dentistry in Washington, D.C. have countless years of experience utilizing this treatment, which allows us to offer numerous advantages. These benefits can include:

  • Reinstating better speaking and chewing function
  • Optimizing your smile by fixing gaps
  • Blocking remaining teeth from changing position
  • Delivering bite forces uniformly to preserve your natural teeth
  • Supporting the the muscles of the face, maintaining a younger-looking look
  • Preserving the natural shape of your face
  • Elevating self-confidence and amplify total wellness
  • Allowing for a resilient and prolonged tooth replacement solution
  • Requires minimal maintenance

Missing teeth are not just an aesthetic issue — spaces between your smile can heavily impact the health of your mouth. Your mouth is balanced carefully, and a gap can affect how well you use it. With time, a missing tooth can lead to teeth shifting, creating bite problems (overbite, underbite, crossbite) and atrophy of the gums and jawbone. A dental bridge requires the surrounding teeth to be strong enough to hold the restoration, including sufficient jawbone density and gum tissue. Dr. Bernan will assess your mouth at your consultation to help you select the best bridge type and material.

What Can I Expect from Dental Bridges?

Once your teeth are filed down to prepare them, we will take digital x-rays and dental impressions so your custom bridge can be created. A temporary bridge can be placed while your custom one is crafted. As soon as your dental bridge is ready, your mouth will be numbed with local anesthesia. Stronger sedation methods may be used if you have anxiety or trouble with a gag reflex so you will stay calm during the placement. Your bridge will either be glued in place or connected to implants based on the support you elected to have during your consultation. A member of our team will adjust the fit of the bridge so it is comfortable in your mouth and stable.

Dr. Berman and her team are incredibly friendly and responsive running the practice like a well oiled machine. In a world where quality customer service has declined sharply, it is refreshing to be attended to by people who really care. The spotless office is conveniently located in downtown DC and every appointment moves quickly - but not rushed - showing the utmost respect for patients time. My Invisalign treatment and crown lengthening surgery went smoothly and I am ecstatic about the results. Dr. Berman delivered me the perfect smile I’ve wanted since adolescence. I would 15/10 recommend her practice to anyone seeking dental or orthodontic care.

Dr. Berman is wonderful. Switched to this practice after a few years at a do-nothing dentist and expected some work would be needed. A detailed plan of care was laid in the first visit and was done seamlessly and perfectly over just three months. Dr. Berman and the staff made the whole experience enjoyable and painless. I'm very happy with where I am from where I was before
