What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Complete or partial removable dentures require messy adhesives to stay in your mouth, but implant-supported dentures are anchored with titanium posts in your jawbone for a much more secure fit. This ensures that the dentures will not slip out of place, even when you are eating or talking. Implant-supported dentures are an attractive teeth replacement option that can be used just like your natural teeth. At Washington Elite Dentistry, you can get implanted dentures that are custom-made and comfortable. What Are the Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures in Washington, DC at Washington Elite Dentistry present a logical solution for patients who desire a sturdy tooth replacement that looks natural. A few of the key benefits include:

  • Steady fit and decreased likelihood of sensitive areas or tenderness
  • May elevate a patient's confidence
  • Help people easily chew a vast spectrum of foods
  • Won't shift while speaking or eating because implant-supported dentures lock in place
  • Sturdy, long-lasting treatment
  • Help stop jawbone deterioration that might arise with conventional dentures

What Can I Expect from Implant-Supported Dentures?

Prior to any treatment, one of our dentists will perform a thorough dental exam, which includes taking digital x-rays to assess the health of your gums and jawbone. If your jawbone or gums are too weak to hold the implants, a gum and/or bone graft surgery might be needed. As soon as the area is fully healed, the implants can be placed.

You will be given local anesthesia to numb your mouth before the procedure. Other sedation options may be discussed if you have any fear or anxiety. We will make surgical incisions in your gums and place implants in the holes in the jawbone. For dentures, at least four implants are used for each arch. The incisions will be stitched with part of the implanted post showing above the gumline. A temporary denture will cover the posts as they heal over 4 – 6 months. The implants will integrate with your gums and jaw. Once the posts are fully healed, your custom dentures can be attached to the implanted posts and fitted.

Dr. Berman and her team are incredibly friendly and responsive running the practice like a well oiled machine. In a world where quality customer service has declined sharply, it is refreshing to be attended to by people who really care. The spotless office is conveniently located in downtown DC and every appointment moves quickly - but not rushed - showing the utmost respect for patients time. My Invisalign treatment and crown lengthening surgery went smoothly and I am ecstatic about the results. Dr. Berman delivered me the perfect smile I’ve wanted since adolescence. I would 15/10 recommend her practice to anyone seeking dental or orthodontic care.

Dr. Berman is wonderful. Switched to this practice after a few years at a do-nothing dentist and expected some work would be needed. A detailed plan of care was laid in the first visit and was done seamlessly and perfectly over just three months. Dr. Berman and the staff made the whole experience enjoyable and painless. I'm very happy with where I am from where I was before

About Us
How long does the implant-supported denture procedure take?

The duration of the implant-supported denture procedure can vary depending on individual needs and healing times. Initially, the dental implants are placed, which requires a healing period of a few months for them to integrate with the jawbone. After this, the dentures are fitted, making the total process time span from several months to over a year.

Is getting implant-supported dentures painful?

Patients typically experience minimal discomfort during the implant-supported denture procedure. At Washington Elite Dentistry, local anesthesia is used during implant placement to ensure comfort. Post-procedure, some soreness may be expected, but this is usually manageable with prescribed or over-the-counter pain relievers.

How do I care for my implant-supported dentures?

Caring for implant-supported dentures involves regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups. It's important to clean around the implants and under the denture to prevent plaque buildup. Washington Elite Dentistry provides detailed aftercare instructions to maintain the health and longevity of your implant-supported dentures.
